March 12, 2020 Update
March 12, 2020: As of today (Mar. 12), there are still no confirmed or presumed positive cases of COVID-19 (coronavirus) in Montgomery County, the New River Valley, or southwestern Virginia. However, there now 17 presumed positive cases in Virginia. Read more.
Today, Governor Northam declared a State of Emergency and outlined measures to manage COVID-19 in Virginia. Read more.
In addition, local educational institutions have updated plans and protocols.
Montgomery County Public Schools announced that beginning Mar. 13, 2020, field trips outside of Montgomery County, as well as to Radford University or Virginia Tech have been canceled. Updates regarding MCPS plans and protocols will be made at www.mcps.org/covid19.
Virginia Tech and Radford University have extended Spring Break and moved to online classes. New River Community College has also extended Spring Break.

March 12, 2020: In light of the recent concerns with the COVID-19 virus and out of an abundance of caution, the Christiansburg Parks and Recreation Department, the American Legion Post 182 and the Veterans Outreach Center, Inc. have made the decision to reschedule the Veterans Resource Fair from Saturday, March 28, 2020 to Saturday, November 7, 2020. The fair will still be hosted at the Christiansburg Recreation Center.
The decision was made in order to ensure the safety and well-being of event attendees and our community partners.

March 12, 2020 Release from the New River Valley Home Builders Association: In light of the recent events, both nationally and locally, the NRVHBA has made the decision to cancel this weekend’s (March 14-15) planned NRV Home Expo at the Christiansburg Recreation Center. Though we do this knowing all the time, effort, and planning our staff and vendors put into creating an incredible show, we feel it is in the best interest of our community after speaking with both town and public officials. We are incredibly sorry for this inconvenience and are currently working through the details in regards to possibly rescheduling the event.

March 12, 2020: Virginia Swimming, which is hosting the Short Course Age Group Champs meet at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center, has made the decision to swim the portion of the meet that is scheduled for Thursday, March 12, but to cancel the rest of the meet for this upcoming weekend. (The meet was originally scheduled to run March 12-15 but will now end on March 12).
