The Town of Christiansburg is well served by rail, air, and highway systems for both commercial shipping and commuting purposes. Christiansburg is conveniently located at the crossroads of three major highways: Interstate 81, U.S Route 11, and U.S Route 460.
Train and Air
The Norfolk and Southern Railway traverses Christiansburg and rail freight service is available to local businesses. Although there is no airport within town limits, service is available from three surrounding airports: Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport, approximately 35 minutes to the northeast; Virginia Tech-Montgomery Executive Airport in Blacksburg; and New River Valley Airport in Dublin, approximately 20 miles to the southwest.
The Roanoke - Blacksburg Regional Airport is the largest of the three and is served by a number of commercial airlines. The New River Valley Airport serves largely cargo, while the Virginia Tech-Montgomery County Executive Airport serves primarily corporate and private clientele.
Local bus service is provided between Christiansburg and Blacksburg by Blacksburg Transit’s “BT Commuter Service,” with in-town services provided by the “Explorer” circular route and “Go Anywhere” advance on-call service. Regional bus service is provided by Valley Metro, with the Smart Way Commuter Bus linking the New River Valley with the Roanoke Valley. The Virginia Breeze is a new intercity bus service connecting Christiansburg with Union Station in Washington, D.C. The daily route includes several stops in the New River Valley, Shenandoah Valley and Northern Virginia. Ticket prices range from $19-$50, depending on your selected trip.
