Public Works crews are completing tree trimming operations in downtown Christiansburg, which will take place periodically during daytime hours, from Sept. 23 through Oct. 2.
Tree trimming is essential to ensure the trees downtown maintain their shape and do not grow into or impact neighboring buildings and street lights.
Of the many trees downtown, roughly five are larger Elm trees. During the tree trimming operation, residents may notice a drastic change in the appearance of these Elm trees. Elms grow very quickly with long-hanging limbs and very little foliage on the inside of the canopy. Though the leaves will grow back, the trees will appear more bare than usual.
The Town’s horticulturist is managing the tree trimming project and customizing the pruning based on each tree’s growth, size and habits.
