Helping Hands, a crafting group with a mission to help others, just placed a coat rack full of hats, scarves, gloves and other warm items at the Christiansburg Recreation Center (1600 North Franklin Street). The items are free for anyone who may need them to stay warm this winter.
Helping Hands started in November and is growing quickly. With about 15 members, the group meets every Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. at the Recreation Center to make items that can be donated to people in need in the area. The group is free to join and all are welcome!
If you have materials or handmade items you would like to donate, please stop by the Recreation Center to see Tammy Caldwell, or email her at tcaldwell@christiansburg.org if you have any questions about the group. Helping Hands has a goal to take on a monthly project, with potential future projects to include making scarves for veterans, shawls for nursing homes, blankets for babies and so much more! If you can’t make it to the weekly meetings but are interested in participating, contact Tammy and she can direct you on how to get involved at home.
The Town of Christiansburg will post information about Helping Hands and its projects periodically on its Facebook account (www.facebook.com/cburgvagov), so stay tuned for more crafts that you can make to help others in your community!
