The Town of Christiansburg is installing six emergency call towers along the Huckleberry Trail, from Town limits near the railroad bridge to the current end of the trail near the Food Lion Shopping Center. Work on the installation will begin Monday, July 15.
The trail will remain open and passable during installation, but a contractor will be completing foundation work throughout the week of July 15 and may cone off a lane of the trail, if needed, when working at each of the six install locations. Signage will be in place to alert pedestrians and cyclists of the work zones, and the contractor’s truck will display flashing yellow lights. Work will begin at about 8 a.m. each day.
After the foundations are in place, the contractor will return the week of July 22 to install the call towers.
Once the call towers are in place and functional, they will display a blue light so trail users can spot them. The call towers will allow trail users to place emergency calls to 911.
