Voter Registration
If you are a new Virginia resident, you must register in order to be able to vote in Virginia. If you moved to Christiansburg from another Virginia jurisdiction, you must transfer your voter registration to Montgomery County. You can do this at the DMV when you register your vehicle or you can go to the Montgomery County Government Center located at 755 Roanoke Street, Suite 1F. For more information, call 540-382-5741.
Vehicle Registration
New Virginia residents must register their vehicles within 30 days after becoming a resident in Virginia. Immediately upon registration, a vehicle safety inspection is required; there is no grace period. The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office is located at 385 Arbor Drive, Christiansburg, VA. You may title your vehicle in Virginia, register for state license plates and apply for a Virginia driver’s license at this location.
Pets
Virginia state law requires that dogs and domesticated cats must be vaccinated for rabies by four months of age by a licensed veterinarian. A copy of the vaccination certification, signed by the veterinarian, including the veterinarian's license number, must be presented when purchasing a dog tag. If you are purchasing a kennel tag, you must present the certifications of vaccination for all dogs kept in the kennel.
A lifetime dog tag is a one-time fee of $25. A 20-dog kennel tag is $50 per year, which must be purchased by January 31 of each year.
License applications are available through Montgomery County. Please visit one of the below locations or submit by mail via this link. Visit montva.com/dogtags for more info.
