Training
The Christiansburg Police Department sends its recruits to the Cardinal Criminal Justice Academy. Some subject areas included in the training are:

- Physical fitness

Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age
- Possess a high school diploma or
- General Education Development Certificate
- Possess a valid driver’s license in the state of Virginia
- Possess a high moral standard, a conviction for a felony or serious misdemeanor will result in a disqualification
- Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence clearly and concisely
- Must be able to communicate with people in a polite, courteous, and firm manner
- Must be able to work various shifts
- Computer experience and/or knowledge a must (reports entered into a laptop computer mounted in the patrol unit)
