Volunteer with Us
Thank you for your interest in volunteer membership at Christiansburg Rescue!
In order for your application to be considered, please submit the Rescue Observer Form and the EMS Volunteer Application through our online systems. After submitting these items, you will be contacted by our membership committee. Please note that paper applications are not accepted.
In order to ensure coverage of calls, members commit to scheduled shifts. We operate 24/7/365 and must have coverage all day, every day, including weekends and holidays. Preference will be given to candidates whose availability meets the coverage needs of our agency. Individuals attending local colleges or universities who live outside of the region during summer and winter breaks may request a leave corresponding with their school schedule.
Shift requirements are 12 hours per week. Day shifts are normally 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and night shifts are normally 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Alternate schedules are considered on a case-by-case basis. Members also participate in membership meetings, training meetings and public outreach events. Membership meetings are held bi-monthly usually on the first Sunday at 7 p.m. Training meetings are scheduled as needed. Training and uniforms are provided.
Junior members are those between 16 and 18 years of age and must be enrolled in high school or an equivalent program with a minimum of a C average. Parental consent is required. Junior members are expected to serve 6 hours per week. Training and uniforms are provided.
