Human Resources
The Human Resources Department administers, coordinates, or assists with the following programs and services:
  • Developing and delivering a wide variety of training topics specific to departmental and employee needs, including new employee orientation, supervisory skills, sexual harassment / workplace harassment, Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol awareness, etc 
  • Recruiting and post-employment opportunities and assisting departments with candidate selection in accordance with applicable federal and state laws
  • Conducting and maintaining ethical employment practices in conjunction with Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Equal Opportunity Employment (EOE), Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) / National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), and other employment law.
  • Coordinating drug and alcohol screening
  • Conducting criminal background investigation and screening motor vehicle driving records for employment candidates using applicable resources
  • Coordinating and assisting with employee wellness programs including health screenings, Employee Assistance Program, hearing conservation testing, and DOT / Virginia Occupational Safety and Health (VOSH) required physical examinations for specified classifications
  • Assisting supervisory staff with employee evaluations and other employment practices to bolster equitable and fair employment actions
  • Conducting retirement education and administration/processing
