Steve Huppert rejoined Town Council in September 2010, after serving as a councilman from 2004-2008, and a Planning Commission representative
from 2008 to 2010. He served as vice mayor from 2012-2013.

Having lived in Christiansburg for 35 years,
Mr. Huppert has seen the town grow and change
over time. He describes himself as a “small voice in helping Christiansburg become an even better
town” and is particularly supportive of tourism
initiatives, including the Aquatic Center and downtown events. During his tenure on the council, Mr. Huppert hopes to improve the budget and would also like to see a signature park in Christiansburg, the development of a farmers market, as well as further extension of the Huckleberry Trail.

Mr. Huppert earned his B.S. in business administration with a major in marketing from the University of Georgia and an M.S. in vocational education and guidance from Virginia Tech. He spent the majority of his career as a guidance counselor at Auburn Middle School and Christiansburg High School. He also coached a variety of sports for 25 years, including tennis, football, wrestling, and cross-country.

Retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after 28 years in the Army Reserve, Mr. Huppert is a Vietnam War veteran who served with the 101st Airborne.

A lifelong fan of Will Rogers, Mr. Huppert has also published a book on the American icon titled Will Rogers: One Man Show. Mr. Huppert and his late wife, Janice, have two daughters, Stephanie and Sharon, and a son-in-law, Chris. He is also a proud grandfather to Abigail and Colin.
