Each Sergeant Detective is trained in hostage negotiations, interview and interrogation, homicide investigations, as well as many other speciality types of investigations.

One Sergeant Detective is certified as a Crime Scene Technician through the Virginia Division of Forensic Science and has recently beencertified as a Crime Scene Investigator through the International Association for Identification. The ICAC unit investigates crimes involving sexual exploitation of children through the use of internet and other electronic devices. The Christiansburg Police Department ICAC unit is part of the Southern Virginia ICAC Task Force; encompassing the area from Virginia Beach, crossing Central Virginia to Bedford, and spanning all the way down to Washington County. The ICAC unit also provides computer forensic exams for the agency and the SOVA ICAC Task Force. Sergeant Townley has been trained on conducting computer forensic exams through the Secret Service and has also attended numerous other trainings throughout the country. The ICAC unit is also pleased to offer internet safety presentations for children and teenagers, as well as parents.
