Public Works crews will be collecting piles of loose leaves beginning Nov. 6 and continuing through Dec. 28, weather permitting and not including holidays or weekends. Please make sure your pile of leaves does not block sidewalks, sanitary sewers, solid waste carts, drainage ditches or utility meter boxes.

The Town of Christiansburg offers complimentary curbside brush collection to all residential properties within town limits. Residents must have brush piles placed out by 7 a.m. on the Monday of their collection week, which is based on your address. Please visit www.christiansburg.org/brush to find out your collection week. For this service, brush is defined as tree limbs/logs from trimming or pruning trees. All collected brush must pass through a wood chipper, so the following will not be accepted: leaves, weeds, grass clippings, vines, other yard waste and construction materials. These items can be collected during Spring/Fall cleanup or by scheduling a special pickup through the Public Works department. The Street Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 6:30 p.m. in the administrative conference room of Town Hall. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss easement dedications for the Marketplace Redevelopment.

The Christiansburg Farmers’ Market Committee meets the second Wednesday of each month at 5:15 p.m. in the administrative conference room on the top floor of Town Hall, 100 E. Main Street. The purpose of the meeting is for Town staff, vendors and community members to discuss upcoming items and ideas at the Farmers' Market.

The Town of Christiansburg will be celebrating the holidays on Friday, Dec. 14, with several events downtown. The annual tree lighting will take place in Town Square around 6:45 p.m., before the Christmas Parade starts on Main Street at 7 p.m. The Christiansburg Farmers’ Market will host a special Christmas at the Market event on Friday, December 14, from 4-8 p.m. on Hickok Street in downtown Christiansburg.

Free monthly household hazardous waste collection events take place the third Saturday of each month, beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at noon for residents of Christiansburg. Preregistration is required to bring items to these events. This enables us to have adequate staff on hand to assist with the unloading of materials and traffic flow. You must register no later than 24 hours prior to the event. You can register by calling (540) 381-2820 and dial 0 for an attendant. With this pre-registration process, we hope to reduce your wait to under 1 minute. No commercial hazardous materials are allowed. Ring in the New Year at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center! We will have a ball drop, a New Year's "toast," a water bouncer, visits from a mermaid and a pirate, and much more! Tickets are available for purchase at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
