    Fall Cleanup will be held Oct. 6-19. Please place Fall Cleanup items within 10 feet of the street or pavement and separate these items from your regular trash. The Town is not responsible for any items left at or near the street that residents did not intend to have collected. Please note: piles that do not comply with cleanup rules will not be collected. During Fall Cleanup, the Town will pick up tree and brush trimmings, old furniture, a maximum of two appliances, and up to four tires per household. Please separate brush from other materials. Loose materials must be placed in containers not exceeding 32 gallons. Leaves must be bagged. (If you do not want to bag your leaves, you can place loose leaves out during Leaf Pickup, which typically runs in November and December, weather permitting). Though special collection trucks follow regular garbage routes, Fall Cleanup may run a day or two behind trash collection schedules, depending on volume.

  2. Water, Sewer & Solid Waste Committee Meeting

    The Water, Sewer & Solid Waste Committee will hold a meeting on Monday, Oct. 15, at 5:30 p.m. in the administrative conference room of Town Hall. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss potential privatization of garbage service; potential for solid waste as an enterprise fund; potential commercial recycling service; discussion of non-profit garbage service; discuss discuss commercial recycling service year-to-date progress (tonnage, participation, drop-off sites); stormwater survey results and reformation of stormwater utility committee; discussion on how to help Habitat for Humanity with water and sewer connections.

  3. Internet Safety & Social Media

    This is a FREE class designed to educate parents and guardians about social media usage and internet safety in the lives of their children. Safety tips and information will be provided for the most popular apps used by kids today. In addition, issues such as self-victimization (sexting), sextortion and cyberbullying will be discussed. This class will provide a basic overview of the cyber world and the effects it can have on children, both in social settings and in the criminal justice world. CPD Investigator Moe McClanahan will be the instructor for this class, which is presented by both Christiansburg Police and the Christiansburg Department of Parks and Recreation. Parents and guardians ONLY. Children will not be permitted to attend due to the sensitivity of the information. ** Pre-registration is required.   6. Shred-a-Thon

    October 16, 2018, 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM

    Help prevent identity theft, shred unwanted documents, protect identifying information and clean out clutter! The Christiansburg Recreation Center will be holding a Shred-a-Thon from 3-6 p.m. Oct. 16. Please bring your documents in a box or plastic tote (no larger than 22.5"x18"x11.5") and respect the limit of three totes/boxes per vehicle. Items that cannot be shredded include: metal, three-ring binders, composition notebooks, hanging file folders, paint brushes, padlocks, hardback books, keys, eyeglasses, bungee cords, etc. Please note that the Shred-A-Thon is a drive-thru event, no walk-ups are allowed.

  12. Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day

    October 20, 2018, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

    Free monthly household hazardous waste collection events take place the third Saturday of each month, beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at noon for residents of Christiansburg. Preregistration is required to bring items to these events. This enables us to have adequate staff on hand to assist with the unloading of materials and traffic flow. You must register no later than 24 hours prior to the event. You can register by calling (540) 381-2820 and dial 0 for an attendant. With this pre-registration process, we hope to reduce your wait to under 1 minute. No commercial hazardous materials are allowed.   16. Truck or Treat & Huckleberry Hustle

    October 27, 2018, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM

    Each October, Christiansburg Parks and Recreation hosts the Getting Scary on the Huckleberry 5k race and the Truck or Treat event. Race participants begin and end the 5k at the Christiansburg Recreation Center. After the race, participants can enjoy free breakfast prepared by Parks and Recreation staff and reunite with their children for the annual Truck or Treat event. Trucks from Christiansburg Fire, Police, Rescue and Public Works set up in the back parking lot of the Recreation Center for kids and kids at heart to look at and touch. There is a registration fee for 5k participants, but the Truck or Treat event is free.
